Tarte Cosmetics Create Your Own Beauty Kit for $59.00, free shipping, valid 04/26

Hi there!

I thought I would let anybody who cares know that tartecosmetics.com is having a pretty awesome sale today! You get a make-up bag (you can pick from several springy colors), a full sized foundation ( with the option of choosing an airbrush, powder, gel, or clay primer formula), a blush (various formulas as well), a lip product (select a  tint, ,a stick, a glosses or a creme), an eyeliner (waterpoof pencil, liquid, or gel), a mascara ( there are several formulas with names that sound cool but don’t really tell you much about the product, so I dunno), and a make-up brush (( choose between blushing, bronzing, contouring, or eye-lining)-all for just 59.00, shipping included!

No, I’m not being paid by Tarte to tell you about this promo, which is called the “Create Your Own Beauty Kit” special. As always, I freaking wish someone would pay me. Or maybe just send me a free lipgloss, or something. I would literally be the happiest girl ever. My beautiful friend Diane, who loves make-up as much as I do, posted about this deal on social media. I really really really wish I could personally take advantage of it, but I just spent a crap ton of money on make-up last week. I’m trying to be a responsible adult and exercise some self restraint. It’s not easy, and so I was hoping that by blogging about this insanely awesome deal that I’m missing out on, I could at least give myself the satisfaction of having helped another fellow make-up enthusiast to scratch the compulsive, ever present itch to buy more pretty shit they don’t need.

You’re welcome. Be sure to check out tartecosmetics.com. Let me know in the comments below what products you decided on.  I would love to hear, as long as you don’t rub it in my face too much. 🙂 If you enjoyed this post, please comment, like, and follow!

Three Current Favorite Eats and Drinks

Hi! I thought it would be fun to write a blog about three food/drink products I’ve really been loving lately. Please keep in mind that none of the items I’m about to share with you are particularly healthy. They fall into the “fun”section of my diet. Also, please note that   I eat a lot of spinach in addition to all of the goodies mentioned in this post. Lately, I’ve even been doing more cardio. I’m no longer coughing like a chain smoker when I use the stairmaster at the gym anymore-yayyy!

Anyway, on to my three current favorite food/drink related things…:-)

Iced Tea Lemonade

I’ve been stopping at Dunkin Donuts to get a large order of this favorite of mine at least once a week. I’m pretty sure they are only serving it temporarily, for the spring  and summer seasons. Is it just me, or do seasonal menus at places like Dunkin make it so hard not to have trust issues? But really, though…

I’ve also been liking the bottled kind-I currently have tea lemonade (or lemon tea) from both Snapple and Wegman’s in my fridge.

My favorite tea lemonades in the world are from Starbucks. I love to go there for a Trenta iced peach green tea lemonade, or a passion fruit tea lemonade with two pumps of raspberry syrup. Consider me freaking obsessed with both! I have gotten so many friends hooked on these, by the way. So so good.

Nature’s Path Toaster Pastries

Okay, I’m well aware that these are glorified poptarts. They just have better ingredients. Or better sounding ingredients. Whole wheat flour means  good for you, right?

They also taste healthier than Kellog’s does. I’ll admit, they are still a pretty crappy breakfast, nutritionally speaking. I try to pretend I don’t know this. It’s not that challenging of a task , as they are sold in the organic section at Wegman’s. My logic is that I’m going to end up stopping at a convenience store and buying pop tarts on the way to work anyway; I might as well buy the more nutritious alternative ahead of time.

Chicken sausages

Okay, so I lied. These  aren’t exactly unhealthy. They aren’t as diet friendly  as say, chicken breast, but they certainly aren’t bad for you. I love how sausages are so easy to cook. I just stick them in the oven, flip them over when they’re halfway done, and set a timer to prevent myself from accidentally burning them. For any sausage baking noobs, they require about 35 minutes at 400 degrees.

You can get chicken sausages at any super market. A lot of times, there are even fun flavors to choose from. I got these Feta and Spinach ones at an Italian specialty market. Nom nom nom!

I think that only I would write a blog about tea lemonade, organic toaster pastries, and chicken sausage. Needless to say, I hope you enjoyed this post! Please like and follow me if you would like to see more like it.

My Holy Grail Lipgloss (Less than 5$ at a drug store near you!

Okay, so first let’s talk about my relationship with lipgloss. You know that girl you went to school with, who you were never too crazy about, because you always believed her to be a certain kind of person? Remember that  one fateful day,  when you two somehow ended up chilling with the same group of friends, and you  found yourself thinking, “Long lost sister of mine, where the hell have you been all my life?!”

That’s my relationship with lipgloss. I used to almost never wear it, because I thought I wasn’t a fan of it. I thought all glosses were sticky. I also thought all glosses would come off the second I started  to eat or drink anything.

The product I am about to share with you has completely revolutionized the way I think about lipgloss. As I was scrolling through Instagram one day, I saw several fellow make-up enthusiasts rocking some super shiny lips. I thought it looked really pretty on them, and therefore convinced myself to give gloss another chance. I headed to my local Walgreens that very day. After perusing the make-up aisle, I  decided randomly on a lip product from Rimmel. They have a formula called Stay Glossy. I chose a pale pinky nude color by the name of Blushing Belgraves.

I’m not really sure what a Belgrave is, but I am sure that I freaking love this gloss! From day one, I have been crazy about the consistency of it; It is incredibly light, while also being creamy and moisturizing. It’s so shiny, to the point where the people around you will practically be able to see their reflection in it. I have also found that it stays on pretty well. You will still need to reapply after eating a meal, but you can totally get away with nibbling on a dainty snack, or drinking your morning coffee without having to worry about touch-ups. I just LOVE that.

The really awesome part about this product-it’s super cheap. I have seen it at various drugstores for different prices, but never for more than five bucks. I recently decided that  I needed to get my hands on  some more colors. See below.

Rimmel  Stay Glossy in Savoy Plum

I love how shimmery this is. I feel like it instantly adds a lot of glamour to an every day look.

Rimmel Stay Glossy in Red Carpet Glam-3D formula

Utra shiny, long wearing, and looks like it has a watermelon tint to it. Great for summer.

Rimmel  Stay Glossy in Stay My Rose

Very shiny and classically simple. A little too plain to be worn alone, at least for my taste. I think it would look great over a mauve lipstick, or paired with a dramatic eye look.

I suggest you run  (don’t walk!) to  your local drugstore to get your own Stay Glossy lip gloss from Rimmel.  I promise you will thank me later.

P.S . I totally wasn’t compensated in any way to write this post. I wish.

Review: Sephora’s Formula X Basecoat

Hey all!
I wanted to do a review of Sephora’s Formula X base coat. As you know if you’ve read my previous entries, I’m a nail polish addict. I usually go no more than 48 hours (tops!) without rocking a color on my nails. Without it, I feel like something is missing. I also think it makes my (slightly) chubby, stubby fingers to look more like long, skinny piano fingers. Kind of.

The thing about this basecoat is that it’s very sticky, which I think helps the polish to adhere more smoothly, as well as last longer. I have definitely noticed that my manicures have greater staying power from using this product. I find that I get an extra day, maybe an extra two days, with some very slight wear at the tips of my nails.
2 day old mani, with O.PI.’s Barefoot in Barcelona.  It lasted an additional 24 hours after this picture was taken.

4 day old mani with Essie’s Mochachino-not too shabby 🙂
Confession: I have a tendency to be kind of rough on my hands, especially when I’m cooking and cleaning/ washing dishes. I don’t think that someone like me could ever realistically get a week’s wear from regular polish. Using rubber gloves when I do these things is helpful, but still doesn’t give me a week of beautifully lacquered nails.
Happy manicuring!

Review of Nailhur Renewable Snap On Manicures

So, let me start this review with an honest disclaimer: I’m really a very limited individual when it comes to doing my own nails. I’m lucky I can hold a nail polish brush steady to paint them myself. I can never get those cute nail stickers by Kiss and Sally Hansen to stay on for more than  24 hours. I have no idea what possessed me to think I would be a good candidate for Nailhur press on nails.

Okay, that’s kind of a lie; I do know what possessed me. I follow a ton of beauty accounts on Instagram. I kept seeing pictures of different YouTube glamouristas sporting press on nails from Nailhur.com. The thing about Nailhur that enticed me was the fact that the nail sets come in various colors, prints, and shapes. I also liked that they were supposed to be reusable up to twenty times. I saw all the pretty girlies rocking their gorgeous  Nailhur nails and thought to myself, “I want to look fabulous too!” So of course, I went on their website  and ordered the white square shaped nails in “Cosmopolitan Chic.” I should’ve been smart and started off with just one set, but  I just  had to get carried away; I also purchased the squaletto shaped set in “Sweet Pink”. Sigh. Sometimes, I just don’t know how to quit while I’m ahead.

As you might have guessed, the Nailhur application process was nothing short of a disaster. Each set comes with 24 nails, so that you can pick the one that best fits over each fingernail. It sounds easy enough, but I definitely screwed this part up-big time. I ended up  applying a dainty, appropriately sized slender nail on my left index finger and a huge chunky nail that was probably meant for a thumb nail on my right index finger. I didn’t realize what I had done until after I had used the glue and pressed the second artificial nail down on my nail bed. I  knew at that point I wouldn’t be able to fix my mistake without ripping off several layers of my natural nail in the process. So, I decided to let it go. No big deal.

I also managed to get nail glue all over the skin on my hands. Don’t ask me how, this is me we are talking about. This wasn’t exactly a big deal either. Still, it didn’t feel very nice.

I didn’t really like wearing the Nailhur press on nails. I found them to be invasive, and even a bit uncomfortable. The best way I can think to describe them  would be to say that they felt “tight” on my nail beds.

I did receive a lot of compliments on the way that they looked. The only negative feedback I received was from my smart ass second cousin, who upon seeing my nails asked me if I had “lost a bet”. Love you too, jerk. ❤️

By the end of the day, I was completely  over my snap-on manicure. I wasn’t too worried about removal , as I had read that  they were supposed to soak off with hot soapy water. Lol, yeah right! After trying to soak them off this way for nearly an hour, I resorted to using the extra press on nails from the set to pry them off. As you can imagine, there was a shit ton of damage done to my natural nails as well as the press on nails. Reusable? For this girl? Not a chance.

I tried to weaken the glue by soaking  my nails in acetone nail polish remover , which you aren’t supposed to do if you intend on reusing the Nailhur. I figured there was no additional harm being done, as I had already damaged nearly all of the press on nails beyond recognition. This helped a lot. I managed to successfully remove all but two of them. My pinky and my thumb press on nails  still didn’t want to budge. I ended up cutting them down to nubs and picking at them myself. It took about a day and a half for them to fall off. As you can imagine, my natural nails were slightly thinner and noticeably scratched up from this process.

While my experience with Nailhur was unfortunate, I will admit that it is probably one that only I would have. I’ve seen several reviews on YouTube, all of which have been pretty positive. I think I may have used too much glue. Maybe I would have had better luck if I had used it more sparingly. Or maybe I should have used adhesive tabs instead of nail glue. The thing is, I’m way too traumatized from my previous experience to give Nailhur another shot. Lol #butreally

The Juiciest Baked Chicken You’ve Ever Tasted: My No-Longer-a-Secret Recipe

I discovered the culinary secret I’m about to share with you guys  while I was preparing chicken breasts for dinner one night. Chicken breast is commonly hailed  in the healthy eating world for being both  both low fat and full of protein. In the  world of what tastes good, it’s sometimes avoided  for it’s tendency to be a bit dry. Being the type A perfectionist that I am, I was determined to make my chicken breast as juicy and delicious as possible. So, I decided to play around and try something different. I washed my chicken, drizzled it with olive oil, and rubbed my favorite seasonings (a dash of salt and pepper, as well as  a few shakes of garlic powder, cilantro, and a few garlic cloves) into it. I then threw it in a gallon sized ziplock bag and proceeded to make a marinade out of…

BEER! For a pound of chicken, you can use one 12 oz. can or bottle of beer. I made two lbs, and so I used Coronas. You can use whatever type of beer you have hanging around in the refrigerator. I chose to add about three squeezes of lime juice to the mix, which is completely optional. I suggest double or triple bagging your beer soaked chicken so that it won’t leak all over the inside of your fridge.

I let my chicken marinate for an hour. If you have more time, that would probably make it taste even better. When I was ready to cook, I set my oven to 375 degrees and greased my baking dish with a drizzle of olive oil. I then placed the chicken in the dish, and poured the beer marinade over it. I chose to poke holes in the chicken with a fork, to give the beer the opportunity to seep into the meat even more.

So, I have great news and I have crappy news. The crappy news is that  making your chicken this way means it is  probably going to take longer than it  usually does to cook. I’m not entirely sure, but I think this has something to do with baking it in the alcohol. The amount of time it will take depends on how thick the cut of chicken is. I wish I could tell you a specific number of minutes, but unfortunately you’ll just have to keep an eye on it. If you’re really unsure, figure anywhere from forty minutes to an hour.  I always flip my chicken over when it looks like it’s at the halfway point. I also cut into it when it looks done, to ensure that there is no pink in the middle.

The great news is you’re going to have chicken that’s so amazing, you’ll forget about the extra time it took. I now make all of my chicken this way, regardless of whether it’s breasts, or thighs, or whatever. I have included a picture of chicken drumsticks I made recently 🙂 As you can see,  I chose to top them with extra cilantro.  FYI, these were still very slightly pink in the middle, I threw them  back in the oven for five more minutes after taking this picture.

So there you have it, my secret for making juicy, delicious baked chicken. What are some of your chicken making secrets? I would love to hear them. Kindly share them  with me know in the comments below 🙂
